The most beautiful walks #EntreSeineEtMer

Hiking in all its forms

With more than 1000 kilometres of perfectly maintained and signposted footpaths, the Caux Seine area is a walker’s paradise, whatever option you choose: on foot, horseback, bike or your mountain bike.

With twenty walking trails, eight for mountain biking, six for cycling and seven for horse riding, it’s not easy to choose. That’s why we’d like to help by suggesting four must-do hikes, one, in each category.

1. La Sente aux moines On foot

From the Brotonne forest to Jumièges Abbey, this walk is full of surprises. This is undoubtedly the most beautiful walk you can do. At 19.2 kilometres, it’s also the longest. It takes just under five hours to complete the trail, most of which is spent in the shade of the Brotonne forest. You won’t want to miss the breathtaking view over the Seine from the panoramic viewpoint at La Mailleraye-sur-Seine, which offers a breathtaking view of the river and Jumièges Abbey in the distance.
And if you’re not too tired, you can extend the walk by taking the ferry across the Seine to the foot of the most beautiful ruin in France.

2. Along the Seine On horseback

“On the banks of the Seine” is the name of the equestrian trail we are offering. It’s a pretty 38km loop starting from La Mailleraye-sur-Seine, between river and forest. From the top of your horse, you’ll ride alongside the Seine along the towpaths and find peace and quiet as you pass through the wooded parts of the Forêt de Brotonne.
This beautiful ride also offers you the chance to discover what makes the “marsh” so special: land that is partly flooded every winter inside the loop formed by the Seine, at the foot of the Brotonne bridge. Meadows where horses, sheep and cows – Normandy cows, of course – frolic, fields of maize and barley, ponds, poplar groves and pollarded willows.

The marshes are also home to a wide variety of wildlife.

3 Port-Jérôme sur Seine mountain biking

A new 22-kilometre tour begins in Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon, near the Fontaine Saint-Denis archaeological site. Here you can discover the former château of the Counts of Évreux, with its restored walls, medieval tower and covered walkway with footbridge. From up here, you can overlook the Télhuet valley and its ponds below. This is where you’ll start your tour, which will then take you to magnificent panoramic views over the Seine and the Cauchoise countryside.
Without any major difficulty, this VVT tour will also allow you to discover the pretty village of Touffreville-la-Cable.

4. Saint Maurice d'Ételan By bike

<13 kilometres of gentle cycling. You’ll discover an exceptional landscape of the Seine valley and its ancient marshes, crossing fields and skirting the river, but also monuments not to be missed.
And in particular, the Château d’Ételan. One of the first Renaissance châteaux in France, if not the first, in the flamboyant Gothic style built at the very end of the 15th century. Just a stone’s throw from the castle, the village of Saint-Maurice d’Ételan overlooks the marshland, where you can cycle in complete peace and quiet. It’s a village that seems timeless, with an old-fashioned charm that’s sure to win you over. Just like the breathtaking view over the marshes and the Seine as you pause for a moment next to the town hall.
