Panoramas of the Seine TOP 3

At your feet, a river flows. A river, you say?
You’d be right. The Seine is indeed a river, but the cruise ship captains who ply its waters from Paris to Le Havre or Honfleur, and who regularly call at Caudebec-en-Caux, like to refer to it as a river.

1. Breathtaking view above Villequier

A different atmosphere in the forest above the small village of Villequier. Climb up to the church, which you leave on your right, and follow the winding road up to the summit. On your left, there’s a grassy area where you can park your vehicle.

Take the path through the undergrowth and begin a lovely stroll along the main path, which will take you over a small wooden bridge to a superb belvedere overlooking the Seine and offering a magical view as far as the Pont de Brotonne.

In fact, it’s two panoramas in one. Prefer the second, where a bench allows you to admire the scenery in complete relaxation, and where a railing ensures optimum safety. Sissi Cussot, the famous runner, likes to train here.

2. From the cornice de Rétival in
Caudebec-en-Caux

Another lovely viewpoint over the Seine can be found in Caudebec-en-Caux, on the heights of the town, along the corniche de Rétival.

After passing the famous Manoir de Rétival and its Michelin-starred restaurant, you’ll find yourself in a strategic spot to admire the meandering river between Villequier on your right and the Pont de Brotonne, which rises proudly on your left.

Inaugurated on July 9, 1977, this bridge marked the end of the ferry at Caudebec-en-Caux, which until then had been used to cross from one bank to the other.

At 1278 meters long and 125 meters high, the Pont de Brotonne is a cable-stayed bridge which, when it was commissioned, had the longest central span in the world at 320 meters.

Despite its construction and commissioning, three ferries still exist upstream and downstream of the Brotonne bridge, at Yainville, Heurteauville and Quilleboeuf.

3. Gain height Admire the meandering
of the Seine

Above Heurteauville in La Mailleraye-sur-Seine, there’s a place where you can indulge in a unique contemplation of the Seine. A place where you can rest in peace, with no other intention than to recharge your batteries and admire the spectacle of nature meandering at your feet. You’re in control. You’re free to let your gaze wander ad infinitum, unless you’d prefer to linger over the wildlife frolicking just around the corner in the Brotonne forest.

The panorama from La Mailleraye-sur-Seine is a magical place where anything goes. Including discovering, there, right in front of you, on the other side of the Seine… Look, can you guess the white stones that stand out and climb towards the sky? The famous Abbaye de Jumièges is right there. The panorama from La Mailleraye-sur-Seine is also appreciated for its spectacular sunsets. The horizon is tinged with warm, golden hues, creating a romantic, peaceful atmosphere that enchants visitors.
