Valasse Abbey Park Serenity and natural beauty

There is a place, between the Seine and the sea, where nature seems to have been born to seduce you, perhaps even charm you. A place where it’s good to go for a walk, to recharge your batteries… where you can enjoy being with your family, as a couple, or alone with yourself in perfect harmony with two-hundred-year-old trees that would have so many things to tell you.

Going for a walk

Let yourself be surprised

What a delight it is to stroll through this verdant park. Here, everything invites you to serenity, rejuvenation and meditation. The abbey, which looks like an 18th-century castle, watches over this green setting, but it’s not the only one. Take a look at this magnificent purple beech tree, which has been staring you in the face for over 200 years. Admire its majesty, its strength that also hides its fragility due to its old age, but also and above all to global warming, which here, as elsewhere, has more consequences than we sometimes think.

The secrets of the Abbey

Look up. Can you see the owl dominating the park, gazing benevolently at the tower that shadows it? This tower is one of the few remaining remnants of the wall that protected the abbey in its monastic heyday. This owl was cut out of the trunk of a dead tree with a chainsaw by David Loison in 2021. It was also David who carved, again with a chainsaw, the small animals that line part of the hiking trail, “Les secrets de l’Abbaye”.

This walk allows you to wander freely in the park, around the abbey, on the heights and down to the pond at the very back of the park. Your children will love looking for the little signs along the way. Little signs on which QR Codes will tell you all about the wealth of built and natural heritage in this park like no other.

A little stroll of just over 3 kilometres that you can do at your own pace, without any real difficulty. And then, if you’re a little tired and, above all, if you fancy extending the pleasure, La Laiterie opens its doors to you.

La Laiterie

La Laiterie is a place for exchanging ideas, sharing and generosity, where you can relax, have a drink, sample a pastry or even enjoy a quick lunch, all under 900-year-old Cistercian vaults. And weather permitting, why not make yourself comfortable, barefoot on the fresh grass terrace?

Nadine Ledru

But your stroll through the grounds of Valasse Abbey wouldn’t be complete without a diversion to the Galerie-Atelier of sculptor Nadine Ledru.
You’ll discover an engaging character and a highly talented artist who knows how to tame metal and give it grace and lightness. Her characters will seduce you, just as much as the artist who fashions them.
