Horse festival

There’s no need to prove it any more: Normandy is renowned the world over for its horse farms, whether in the world of racing or equestrian sports. The region boasts a number of stud farms, including two national ones at Le Pin and Saint-Lô, and hosts a number of major horse races and equestrian events.

Horse-drawn carriages and shows

The Fête du Cheval at the Abbaye du Valasse, is an integral part of these not-to-be-missed events celebrating horse-drawn carriage driving. Twelve years on, this event is repeated every August in the grounds of the Abbaye du Valasse. The 2024 edition will open its doors on Saturday 10 August and devote two days to horses and drivers, showcasing elegance, rigour and passion.

The programme includes spectacular competitions that will highlight the talent and mastery of the participants.
Discover the art of driving a carriage with precision and grace, known as dressage, in the driving competition. The handling test is a challenge of skill where every movement counts. The Marathon reveals the power and speed of the horses in a thrilling race through various obstacles.

But the horse festival is also a host of entertainment for young and old.
